Greg Pabst

Design Team Leader & User Experience Strategist

My name is Greg Pabst and I’ve been doing web, user interface, user experience, mobile application and brand design since 1997. I live for user research and I design clean, smart & effective websites and insist on designing for the user.  I also have many years of creative and development team management and direction under my belt.  Since I am based in Orlando Florida, you’ll most likely find me at one of the Disney theme parks on the weekends because I am huge Disney Parks fan.  You may also catch me daydreaming about my next trip to Iceland.

My Design Team Leadership Philosophy

I’m a Mentor, Diplomat, and a Salesman

Visionary & Quality Oversight
I lead with clarity and determination to build the vision and align designers with it.  I provide oversight of the end-to-end experience for the user.  From the conceptual scale at 1,000 feet down to one foot.

Communication
I communicate up, down, and sideways.  I’m an expert at communication not only with the design team but also with other teams and leadership. I have the ability to explain the rationale behind design decisions and present clear arguments delivered without anger or frustration.  Location isn’t a factor for me as I operate at peak communication productivity whether in an office environment or working with remote teams.

Collaboration
I coordinate efficiently with team leads in order to make sure their teams’ work is appropriately integrated with the larger whole.  Everybody should feel like a valuable contributor and partner in the design process.

Coaching, Guidance & Mentorship
I put emphasis on each team member’s growth and guide them to improve further.  I coach by listening to aspirations, accomplishments, and impediments.

Curiosity & Humility
I never stop asking why and I am open to criticism.  Part of being a leader is not just to teach but also to learn.

Trust & Respect
I do not micro-manage and I trust and respect each individual on the design team.  I believe you cannot go at it alone, as a team we are all in this together delivering great experiences for the user.

High Profile Companies I’ve Worked With

SeizAlarm Seizure Detection

I am the creator and Co-Founder of SeizAlarm, an internationally recognized seizure detection mobile application.  Designed for those living with epilepsy or other seizure disorders.  The company launched in early 2015 when the first Apple Watch was released and was the first application of its kind.

SeizAlarm monitors for seizure-like motion or high/low heart rates.  When an event is detected, help requests are sent out to all the user’s caregivers letting them know they need help and providing their location.

The app is a paid subscription-based SaaS service that is currently providing thousands of people peace of mind and more independence than they had before.

SmartTrader Charting Web Application

While at Market Traders Institute I was the User Experience Design Manager over the SmartTrader and MTI marketing design teams.  Not only was I the UX Manager, but I was also was the product owner for the SmartTrader web-based charting application as well as the acting Director of Application Development.

I oversaw SmartTrader from its prototype form through to a full-fledged enterprise-level SaaS application with 5,000+ paying subscribers.  I directed the team in the creation of 50+ new features and add-ons per year. Also built was a custom made eCommerce marketplace allowing users to purchase products and add-ons through the application.

Disney Newsroom Project

Project Description

Website redesign for Disney’s public relations department. The core purpose of the website is to be the central location where the media is able to gather press related stories and assets. A key new feature I devised was a “Media Folder” that allowed users to collect assets then download them as a package vs. having to download each individually.  This greatly improved overall usability, including a 26%  increase in session duration.
